About Us

The New England Skeptical Society was founded on January 1, 1996 as a non-profit organization with the following goals:

1) To educate the public about the principles and necessity of skepticism and critical thinking in our society.
2) To investigate paranormal and pseudoscientific claims with an emphasis on local claims within New England.
3) To promote higher standards of education, especially in the areas of science and critical thinking skills.
4) To gather and disseminate information of interest to skeptics.
5) To provide a forum for skeptics to publish their ideas and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on skeptical topics.
6) To lobby for rational law making.

In addition to being the host of The Skeptics’ Guide podcast, he is the president and co-founder of the New England Skeptical Society. He is also the author of NeuroLogicaBlog, a popular science blog that covers news and issues in neuroscience, but also general science, scientific skepticism, philosophy of science, critical thinking, and the intersection of science with the media and society. Dr. Novella also contributes every Sunday to The Rogues Gallery, the official blog of the SGU, every Monday to SkepticBlog, and every Wednesday to Science-Based Medicine, a blog dedicated to issues of science and medicine. Dr. Novella is available for public lectures, radio, podcast, or other media appearances. Contact him through the contact page or at [email protected] to request an appearance.

Vice President: Robert Novella

Evan Bernstein is the co-host of The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe and is the producer and co-host of The Skeptics Guide 5×5 weekly science podcasts. He posts a blog each Monday at The Rogues Gallery, the official blog of the SGU. Evan serves as the technical adviser for official NESS investigations, and has been an active participant in the skeptical movement since 1996. Evan’s profession is in television production, and he holds a BA in Communications from Central Connecticut State University.

Perry DeAngelis

Perry was one of the co-founders of the NESS, our first executive Director, and an original panel member of the SGU. Sadly, he passed away in August of 2007 from complications of scleroderma. His wit, humor, and dedication to hard reason are greatly missed. He can still be heard in the first 107 episodes of the SGU and many of his articles are archived on our articles page.
