I understand your sentiment completely. On the night before this launch I camped out on the beach at Jetty Park from about 2AM till the launch time. People began turning away from the shuttle after the SRB separation, but I stood and watched until I couldn’t even imagine that I could see it anymore.
I grew up in a part of the world where everyone’s parents (including mine) were engineers at Pratt and Whitney; many of them worked on the shuttle engines. It was space geek culture and no matter what was happening in town during the launch, every television was tuned in and everyone was outside watching. After Endeavour landed this morning, the thought of having only one mission left is really hitting me.
