My Friday

You may have noticed that there was no post yesterday (Friday).  I occasionally miss Friday when I am away at a convention or other event, and I missed yesterday for a similar reason. With very short notice I was asked to appear on a national TV show. I am not yet at liberty to reveal which one. Nor do I know exactly when it will air, but I should know soon, and the episode should air within a few weeks, so stay tuned. Suffice it to say, I think it’s going to be interesting. The taping went well (as good as can be expected), now I just have to wait and see what the editing does to it. I think the entire experience was worth missing a day of blogging. More info in a week or so.

BTW – If someone here somehow got wind of this, please do not reveal anything here. I promised the producers no mention until I get the green light.

Now I am off to ICON at Stony Brook in northern Long Island, NY. I have a full day of science panels. Hope to see some of you there: http://www.iconsf.org/index.php

Update: The show has been announced, so I am free to report that I will be on the Dr. Oz show Tuesday: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/tuesday-dr-oz-show

    It’s Iron Chef, isn’t it?

This is great news! I can’t wait to watch it. Although I’m sort of hoping it’s not Paul Reiser’s new TV show – I watched five minutes of that, and it was awful.

Dr. Oz finally let you on his show, did he? They probably edited out the smack upside his head…

    Dancing With the Skeptical Stars?

    Imma brace for epic winning.

Know what I would love? A public debate between Dr. Novella and someone from the Bravewell leadership over “integrative medicine.”

I want to expose the fact that the wealthy people bankrolling this political movement don’t fully understand what they’re doing to science.

    Awesome! Can’t wait.

I’m going to set my hopes high and hope for the Colbert Report. I could just see Dr. Novella taking down homeopathy and explaining the scientific method, with Colbert insisting that his “gut” is sufficient to acquire his beliefs.

I just hope this does not turn out like Phil Plait’s tattoo!

Hopefully your talk was not about homoeopathy.
They might just dilute if down till there’s nothing left.

    Phil Plait’s tattoo?

Oh, Friday. Black Friday. The day when the US government decided the people living in the “land of the free” weren’t free enough to decide what to do with their money online.

I have to say me and a buddy of mine went only on sunday just to go to your two lectures starting at 3. Its easy very upsetting when we found out you had left early and we had gone for no reason. I wish there had been mention on your blog to save us buying the passes. Still the more upsetting part was when these two other scientists took over the panel with the same topic cause you couldnt make it. We walked out and left.

I just hope you recieved a promise from the Producers not to edit you into oblivion.

Paladin – sorry for that. The science section was run a bit slipshod this year – it was taken over late in the game, apparently. Communication was very spotty, and I didn’t even know I had panels late on Sunday. We tried to reschedule but they could not pull it off. They promise to do better next year, and if I can make it next year I will have a better idea of how it’s run.

(By the way, did I win the million dollars?)

  18. ChrisHon 23 Apr 2011 at 3:10 am

Oh… my.. Thor… what has Dr. Novella done to himself?

Though truthfully, it is really “What are the editors going to do to Dr. Novella?”

    Steve,

“If someone here somehow got wind of this, please do not reveal anything here. I promised the producers no mention until I get the green light.”

Did you get the green light yet?
Someone has posted the name of the program and when it will air on their blog.
But I’ll leave it to you to announce it here.

    You’re a brave man.
I can’t imagine it turning out well. :(

  20. BillyJoe7on 23 Apr 2011 at 8:41 am

…oops, I see someone else beat me to it.

  21. Steven Novellaon 23 Apr 2011 at 9:30 am

Yep – they announced it, so I can reveal I will be on the Dr. Oz show Tuesday: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/tuesday-dr-oz-show

I just watched it, and I’m impressed with your ability to not have your head explode.
